deborah harrison

Debs Harrison was born in West Yorkshire. She began carving after discovering her sculpting talent in the craft tent at the Greenbelt rock festival. She mainly uses a technique called 'Carving Direct' which was used by Rodin and Henry Moore. No model is used and the carver is sensitive to the qualities of the rock including it's colour and form. Every piece is unique and usually has a creation story.

The themes she uses tend to be figurative and female although some of her work is evolving and becoming more abstract. She has carved in soapstone, alabaster, Bath stone and is now working on larger commissions for gardens and courtyards in non porous materials.

After donating pieces to the charities 'Dovetail Ministries' and 'Hope's Place', Debs was given her first commission for the 'New Creations charity'. Her work has appeared in, 'The Way I See It' exhibition, 'Labyrinths' and the 'Kaleidoscope' arts trail and she has recently lead sculpture sessions on a Devon retreat.
